Essi graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design, and from Savannah College of Art and Design with a Masters in Architecture, where she was also awarded Excelsus Laureate (graduate valedictorian) and was part of Tau Sigma Delta, an honor society in Architecture and Allied Arts. A firm believer that Architecture is the mother of all arts, Essi strives on a daily basis to be as creative as possible in a variety of ways.
“Essi Zimm” is actually her moniker in the art world, and she goes by her given name Jesse Voigt in her day-to-day business. Which is owning her own architecture firm Studio Jesse James with her partner James Johnson, which does work in California, Kentucky, and New York.
She gained her design chops by living abroad in Japan and working for famed architect Frank Gehry, with whom she helped design the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy Museum in Paris, France, and the Guggenheim in Abu Dhabi. She has since won numerous awards in both architecture and art. Her most prized humble brags are her winning for best new retail design for a small space for the Pink Dolphin Los Angeles Flagship store in LD+A, and being featured in New American Paintings #126 West Division. She is going on her fifth solo show in Los Angeles but has been featured in numerous group shows throughout Los Angeles, New York, Arizona, Canada, and England.
